Dyslexia is a brain-based learning disability that specifically impairs a person’s ability to read. This disability affects millions of Americans, including many students. According to the National Center for Learning Disabilities, 2.4 million U.S. public school students are identified with specific learning disabilities, including dyslexia. According to the Dyslexia Foundation, an estimated ten percent of all individuals have some form of dyslexia. This resolution is an effort to ensure that people become more informed and aware of dyslexia and other specific learning disabilities and their impact on individuals’ lives. It acknowledges the unique challenges facing those with specific learning disabilities, the great potential these individuals have, and the importance of proper education, support, and national awareness. Supporting the ongoing research, development, and treatment options provides hope for people with dyslexia and their families.
